Last minute fundraiser...

Tomorrow (Sunday) BLAH will be donating 100% of the profits from the entire day to Sandy Hook Elementary School where the terrible shootings took place last week.

Heidi, one of our managers, grew up in Connecticut and her friend, Courtney Martin, has been a teacher at the Sandy Hook Elementary School for ten years. Courtney was a true hero on Friday morning. She locked her classroom door and huddled with her children in a corner, keeping them calm and telling them she loved them. Courtney and her students were fortunately unharmed.

Sandy Hook Elementary School is relocating to a new school in Monroe, a nearby town. Courtney plans to prepare and decorate their new classroom for a fresh start. She wants to make the classroom a peaceful and calm place for her students as they begin the healing process.

To help Courtney and her third graders, BLAH will also be collecting gift cards to Office Depot, Target, Staples- places Courtney and the other teachers can purchase supplies for the new school. If you can, come on by BLAH Sunday (tomorrow.) We are open from 11:30am to midnight- and bring a card to include in our pack, or simply eat and have a beer.

Spread the word on Facebook, Twitter, by carrier pigeon, reindeer network, etc. With your help, we can directly help this teacher, her kids and this school.

And now here are our holiday hours for the next week-

Monday, Christmas Eve, CLOSED AT BOTH PLACES

Tuesday, Christmas, BLAH (Bar Only) will be OPEN at 5pm-10pm ish.

SAMPLE NEWSLETTER

BEER BEER BEER
AT BLIND LADY ALE HOUSE & TIGER!TIGER!
Dear Jeff,
It's been too long. And now, like lickety-split, the big Adams Avenue Street Fair is upon us: it's THIS WEEKEND. If you hate crowds, it's a good weekend to stay away (or head to TIGER! TIGER!) But if you like beer tents and bands playing in the fresh outdoors and carnival rides, this is the place to be this Saturday and Sunday. And we will be open, with our air-conditioning pumping and our beer flowing.

A few things to look for if you do come out this weekend:

* Our own Automatic Stout 1 will be pouring at 1pm in the Adams Ave Beer Fest tent! You can pre-purchase tickets to that mini fest within the Street Fair at this website: AdamsBeerTaste.com

* The Paladins are playing around the corner from us Saturday night. Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper are playing the next. Let's party like it's 1998! Honestly, there are some fun, FUN bands playing, those aforementioned ones included.

* Leave the car at home. Ride your bike, walk, take a public bus, but do not drive. There is no where to park and lots to drink.

GROWLERS
Something else we don't know if we mentioned yet: AUTOMATIC, our brewery, is now pumping out beer sorta, kinda, fairly regularly. And right now, as in today (and tomorrow and so on) we have GROWLERS for sale at both BLAH and TIGER!  For $21 you can get a growler filled of Stout 1 or our OkTIGERfest beer (at BLAH) and the latter at TIGER! If you already have one of our bigger growlers it will cost you just $16 for the re-fill.

LUNCH at BLAH:
BLAH Is open for lunch Tuesday - Sunday. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from the moment we open at 11:30 till 5 pm, we are offering a Margherita Pizza plus a Suzie's Mixed Green Salad for $10. This is awesome to share - get a couple of beers or sodas and you have yourself a fantastic weekday lunch for two. Or, go for the Caesar Salad and Margherita for $12. That is Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 11:30 -5. You can do a quick lunch (if you're going back to work) or a leisurely one (if you're not.)

Our regular weekly stuff:

@ TIGER! every Tuesday you can get $3 beers (any of the pitcher-able beers) from 5-8pm
@ TIGER! every day till 6 pm $8 steins (pitcher-able beers)
@ TIGER! every Sunday is brunch with house-made doughnuts, chicken on a biscuit, biscuits and gravy & more.

@ BLAH every Friday is Progressive Keg Day- $2 till 2pm, $3 till 3pm, $4 till 4pm.
@ BLAH every day except Mondays- we now serve lunch!

Hope to see you out and about this weekend, if not at one of our places, perhaps at El Cajon's awesome OKTOBERFEST? Don't forget to wear your Lederhosen Tees!
Cheers,

BLAH & T!T! in the NY & LA Times

Looks like summer's about to hit and San Diego is on everyone's minds. Or is it beer that's on their minds? Either way, we love the press. Here's a link to the LA Times article "Southern California Close-Ups"

How are things on the East Coast? Looks like they might be sitting in their cubicles daydreaming about West Coast beers.  "If Hamiltons shuts out the bright Southern Californian light in classic pub style, the Blind Lady Ale House, in the Normal Heights neighborhood, invites it in with plenty of communal tables near its big plate-glass windows..." Check out the full NY Times article here "Beyond San Diego's Surf and Sun: Suds".

Bike To Work Week

So much stuff going on, let's go day by day and start with TODAY-

:: wednesday ::

DrinkAbout is tonight. At TIGER! TIGER! we have a cask of Founders / Green Flash collab called Linchpin (a white ipa).

At BLAH we have a $5 margheritas (the pizza, duh), but you have to ask. It's a secret. Shhh. And only till 7pm.

FRIDAY

it's bike to work week and so we are giving 15% instead of our usual 10% if you ride your bike. and B2W culminates on friday with dealios on friday. At BLAH we up the discount to 20% and at TIGER!TIGER! we are serving up a $2.50 hangar 24 cask. But only if you wear your B2W t-shirt, or show your B2W schwag or flaunt your B2W check-in sticker. Otherwise, no $2.50 deal.

There is yet more fun stuff on Friday: Have you heard of Societe Brewing? You should. We'll have kegs of their Apprentice IPA & Harlot Belgian Extra at progressive pricing. $2-2pm, $3-3pm, $4-4pm. Starts at 11:30am on Friday at Tiger!Tiger!

At BLAH we've have progressive kegs starting at 11:30am. Random beers at a nice price. $2-2pm, $3-3pm, $4-4pm.

SATURDAY

At TIGER! TIGER! we are opening early, at 11 am, for the UEFA Finals! BAYERN MUNCHE vs CHELSEA. BIG screen with BIG sound.

Saturday is also Bike the Boulevard. If you go on it, you will are scheduled to stop at T!T! from 3-4. We will have Celis White for $3 for that hour to celebrate BTB.

At BLAH we will have a Founders Flight when we open at 11:30 am. Also we will have Lunchpin, that's a lunchtime offering of the Green Flash/Founders Linchpin - say that 5 times fast. Ha. Really, that just means we will have Linchpin on at lunchtime at BLAH, but it's so fun to say Lunchpin.

SUNDAY

The jam-packed weekend continues with the Festival o' fArts, we mean Arts, in North Park on Sunday. The beer garden is open 11-6 and Lee will be there with the latest Automatic Brewing creation. Thing Belgian wheat, tangerines, kumquats and maybe some other fresh and fruitiness thrown in at the last minute. Oh, and T!T! is just a short walk from the festival. Nice.

Also there is brunch and doughnuts at T!T! We have coffee now on sundays and we like to highlight / showcase different local coffee roasters, including our neighbors Calabria AND the new guy on the boulevard, the Coffee & Tea Collective, who are open for service as of Wednesday! Speaking of those doughnuts, people are talking 'bout them all over facebook. It's pretty darn flattering (to our sous Sharon Wilson, who makes 'em that is) and yeah, they're vegan. We only make them (for now) on sundays.

:: but wait, there is more ::

We are gonna open for lunches at BLAH for Summer, as in Tuesday-Sunday starting June 19. More info to come as we get closer. but now we have said it out loud so we have to do it!

We are giving away a bike, did you know that? Courtesy of the wonderful Adams Avenue Bikes - it's a LINUS Dutchi 3-speed. You can see one at both T!T! and BLAH! (look up) and you can buy raffle tickets at either place too and they are $1 or $20 wingspan and all the money goes to the SD County Bike Coalition. Win-win.

Cheers,
Blind Lady Ale House

America's 100 Best Beer Bars, again.

Nice. Every year we've been open Blind Lady Ale House has been named to Draft Magazine's "America's 100 Best Beer Bars." We're especially proud because we are truly a Beer Bar—we don't serve spirits or beer cocktails and we have no desire to start. We love beer.

When Craft Beer Goes Bad: A Guide to Refusing a Beer

Just read this article and it speaks volumes to why at BLAH and Tiger!Tiger! we have short lines (direct draw) & clean them in between every beer change, we use only stainless steel draught parts, taste every keg before serving, return bad kegs before they reach your glass, rinse glassware with filtered water, serve honest pours, and encourage our staff to constantly educate themselves on beer styles and flavors. It's also why we gladly serve tasters. All these things allow us to serve beer the way the brewer intended. Cheers.
